Scholarship Benefits
The value of the scholarship will be up to a maximum of €31,000 per annum in any approved year and will consist of the following:
a stipend of €25,000 per annum
a contribution to fees, including non-EU fees, up to a maximum of €5,750 per annum [In cases where the grant recipient is a non-EU national, they may request an additional €4,000 per annum over and above the standard fee contribution. Any remaining differential in fees must be paid by the grant recipient and/or the Research Body.]

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship, applicants must note the following:
There is no age limit for applicants to be eligible for either programme type.
All applicants must be affiliated with or admitted to an eligible Irish higher education institution or research-performing organization.
Applications will only be accepted in either the Irish or English language.
Applicants must not have had two previous unsuccessful applications to the relevant programme, including strategic partner themes. This applies regardless of whether the applicant has changed their host institution or research topic since a previous submission.
How to Apply for the 2026 Government of Ireland Scholarship
Interested and qualified applicants for the Government of Ireland Scholarship should:
First, apply to an eligible Higher Education Institution or Research Programmes.
Then, proceed to submit your application via the online portal.
All applications require two references to be uploaded via the online portal. It is recommended that candidates submit their applications well in advance of the deadline to avoid technical issues caused by heavy server traffic on the designated day.
Applications cannot be submitted once the deadline has passed. No alterations can be made to an application once it has been submitted
