The University of Leipzig in partnership with German Academic Exchange Service is offering fully funded DAAD graduate school scholarships to international students.
The Leipzig DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP) offers a stipend of 1,300€/month (including health and liability insurance, as well as research allowances) for selected candidates for 48 months.

Possible thesis projects should study questions that are relevant for analyzing today’s global challenges, either from a contemporary social science or historical transregional or transnational perspective.

Successful applicants will receive a PhD scholarship from the DAAD of 1.300 €/month (including health and liability insurance, as well as research allowances) for max. 48 months.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP) 2026, you must:
be international applicants who have not lived in Germany for more than 15 months.
hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) completed within the past six years.
have a strong interest in themes related to global, transregional, or transnational studies, particularly in issues such as crises, revolutions, pandemics, migration, climate change, decolonization, and the dynamics of globalization.
At the time of the application, the last final exam (Master’s Degree) should have taken place no longer than six years ago.
How to Apply for the Leipzig DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP)
To apply for the Leipzig DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP), interested and qualified candidates should;
Visit the scholarship page of the University of Leipzig.
Submit a written application to the GSGAS. Application form and required documents can be found here.
Selection interviews & nomination by the GSGAS (Jan/Feb 2026).
Online application in the DAAD portal & DAAD funding decision. A guideline for the application to the DAAD will be made available to nominees after step 2 (until May 2026)
After a successful scholarship application, the scholarship can be started in October 2026.
