Last Sunday, when I just got home from Church I was restless. I was just in awe of how powerful our limiting beliefs are. Alex Hormozi said, "our beliefs are the radar that directs our actions". Anything we think of won't be done if they don't align with our beliefs. That's something to be bothered about.
I've seen this play out in my life multiple times. When I did the Shorts challenge last year, I didn't post on TikTok although I said I would. My beliefs weren't comfortable with that. So I decided to do a study on dealing with limiting beliefs and I found the core ingredient to be understanding brain waves. This was new to me and I'll share what I learnt.
Our brains are made up of billions of neurons. These neurons release electrical pulses when they are activated. These pulses create waves in the brain, popularly called "brain waves". There are 5 brain waves: Alpha, Beta, Delta, Theta, and Gamma. I'll not talk about Gamma because it is the state of superconsciousness and 90% of humans will never experience it in their lifetime.
Beta waves are the state we are in most of the time. It is the state of alertness and mental activity. The frequency of beta waves is 15 to 40 Hz (cycles a second). We experience beta waves when we are engaged in problem-solving or mentally challenging tasks. Activities like having a conversation, writing this newsletter, studying a book, etc. They help us improve memory and cognitive performance.
Alpha waves are associated with a state of relaxation both mentally and physically. The frequency of alpha waves is 9 to 14 Hz (cycles a second). This happens when you're meditating, daydreaming or just resting your focus. Alpha is the state where new learning happens. They also reduce stress and anxiety.
Theta waves are associated with a state of deep relaxation. The frequency of theta waves is 5 to 8 Hz (cycles a second). This happens when you're in light sleep or drifting off to sleep. It is also your state when doing automatic things like brushing your teeth. They help improve your mood and reduce stress levels.
Delta waves are associated with a state of deep sleep. The frequency of delta waves is 0.5 to 4 Hz (cycles a second). This happens when you're in deep restful sleep. They help improve your immune system and reduce stress levels.
The conscious mind is the beta and alpha waves. The subconscious mind is the alpha, theta, and delta waves. Affirmations (used to change limiting beliefs) are very effective when done on the alpha and theta waves.
