Hi friends,
If you know about temperaments, you can call me a Phlegmatic-Choleric. This means I am predominantly laid-back but have a result-oriented side that rises whenever something needs to be done. Two opposing sides of the same coin.
One of the strengths of this combination is seen when I have a strong why to get something done. I go all out for it. Let's call this my drive season. It happens when I have Exams to write and when I am fired up to go the extra mile on personal development. (Reading 3 books in 2 weeks). I noticed however that I developed ulcers in the process. This happened (almost) every year. They actually marked the end of the drive seasons.
The doctor said they were stress-induced ulcers. Researching it, I discovered our bodies release cortisol when we are stressed. They are released without our consent. I got angry. Angry at my body actually. So what do I do? Having a laid-back body but a driven mind.
Last October, I had to start reading more about managing stress. That's when I discovered cold showers. The concept is simple.
Have your bath with regular warm water. Afterward, have a cold shower for 30 seconds to 2 minutes. You can do it this way or increase it to just take cold showers alone.
It has some health benefits like releasing endorphins (the feel-good hormone), improving metabolism, improving my circulatory system, and fighting off common illnesses.
A while after I started, I decided to start another drive season, and guess what? There are no more ulcers. I have worked the hardest in the past 5 months and I've been enjoying it. I'm always excited after every shower and recharged as well.
You can try taking a 30-second cold shower tomorrow and see for yourself.
Have a great weekend.
